CLOCKWISE SPIRAL, along with LINE POSTULATES and DEVIATIONS AND STRAIGHT LINE, is one of 3 experimental videos created for live performance with the TINTINNABULATE IMPROVISATION ENSEMBLE co-directed by American composer Pauline Oliveros and Clara Tomaz (vocalist). The video is about the relationship between the individual and the universe, the inside and the outside of self. As humans we tend to perceive the body as the separation between what's inside us and the rest of the world. But what about our consciousness? It's not physical. Is our body also the border between our consciousness and the universe, or maybe there is no border?

The vocalist, starting with fragments of sounds and finally putting together a sentence at the end of the video, is a person with a speech disability metaphorically guiding us through the journey it takes to re-learn to speak (from single sounds to words and then sentences) when that function is lost to life-changing disease.

LINE POSTULATES, along with DEVIATIONS AND STRAIGHT LINE and CLOCKWISE SPIRAL , is one of 3 experimental videos created for live performance with the TINTINNABULATE IMPROVISATION ENSEMBLE co-directed by American composer Pauline Oliveros and Clara Tomaz (vocalist). The video is about the relationship between microcosm and macrocosm. It focuses  in particular on the smallest and most essential details of our daily life (so essential that they are reduced to lines) as potential vehicles for questions and answer of universal caliber.

The vocalist, starting with abstract sounds and pure sentence intonation and finally putting together words at the end of each chapter, is a person with a speech disability metaphorically guiding us through the journey it takes to re-learn to speak (from vocal sounds to words) when that function is lost to a life-changing disease.

DEVIATIONS AND STRAIGHT LINE, along with LINE POSTULATES and CLOCKWISE SPIRAL, is one of 3 experimental videos created for live performance with the TINTINNABULATE IMPROVISATION ENSEMBLE co-directed by American composer Pauline Oliveros and Clara Tomaz (vocalist).

DEVIATIONS AND STRAIGHT LINE is about multiple perceptions of disability, in particular the journey through acceptance of one's own acquired disability while witnessing disability discrimination and bias on other individuals. The visuals of the video and the sound feel disconnected initially, as if existing on separate levels but they come to find each other and coincide at the very end.

The vocalist, starting with fragments of sounds, proceeding to slowly putting syllables together and finally words in the last part of the video, is a person with a speech disability metaphorically guiding us through the journey it takes to re-learn to speak (from single sounds to words and then sentences) when that function is lost to a life-changing disease.

REASSEMBLED is a video in three parts exploring my journey of cancer survivorship from diagnosis to treatment and rehabilitation in a surreal and oneiric way. It balances the double point of view of the medical truth and my intimate understanding of it as a patient. The three parts of this video were created for an immersive installation show at the Art Center of the Capital Region in Troy, Ny in 2011. Watch video of the exhibition here.

CHEMO THIRST is a stop-motion animation created on a personal memory of intense helplessness during chemo therapy treatments. The memory is about being very thirsty but unable to reach out to the glass of water on my nightstand due to extreme exhaustion. Brought in and out of conscience by my agonizing condition, I remember imagining to grab the glass several times to only realize it had been a dream when opening my eyes again. I even fantasized of drinking from it at some point. The sense of helplessness reached it climax when someone entered my room and left without asking if I needed anything. I needed a glass of water but I had not enough strength to ask for it. I didn't drink that day.

MIRROR is my first stop-motion animation. It is about acceptance of my disfigurement caused by cancer treatments. It goes deeply into emotions and feelings, bringing the viewer into the complicated journey of self-identity after trauma. This video was created for an immersive installation in a darkened room full of mirrors reflecting pieces of the main projection on a large wall.
